Island Thassos Greece - Limenas/Museum



The archaeological museum is next to the entry of the Agora. Even in the front garden the visitor can admire various statues, as for example an eagle and a lion. A lot of the antiquated subjects were stolen during the Ottoman age of the island and scattered on the whole world.

The museum shows subjects, that are from the time between the 7th century B.C. up to the 7th century A.C. In the museum there are various statues and busts, that were created of different materials, as for example marble or stone. Furthermore you find pots, vessels, architecture drawings and old coins in the museum. For Example there i a 3,5 meters large Kouros which carries a ram stands. Furthermore there are admiring sculptures of Aphrodite, Donyssos, Adrianos and Nemeses. The coins consisted then of silver and copper.

On the coins various historical events, as for example the head of Dionyssos or the bride kidnapping of Silenos, were embossed. The museum leads his visitor from Thassos through the time of the antiquity. The different sculptures concede insights to the visitor about the fashion and the appearance of the former time. Further the museum shows his visitors the former life with all his myths and legends. You make even a picture about that, which the legends' and myths' could have perhaps nevertheless a true background. You should take the time to explore the antiquity.
