You will find Kastro in the northwest from Limenaria in the inland of Thassos.
The village Kastro is high-lying about 500 m and as so many villages in the mountain, you can`t see it
from the coast.
This location protected the Greek for plundering in the time of piracy.

Kastro gone to ruin during the time, because many citizens settled to the coast.
One of the reason was that the farmer had their fields and their olive grooves in the lowland.
Another reason was the mining of ore from the company Speidel which were located in the near Limenaria.

In the last few years the inhabitants started to restore the old ruins of Kastro to use the houses for the weekend.
Circuit lines and telephone lines are ready. There is one good tavern. The village starts to come to live again.

You can go to Kastro via Limenaria by car (about 35 minutes) or within walking distance via Theologos or Limenaria.
But be careful: The road to Kastro isn't tared and especially after strong rain it could be damaged.
