In Italy

Important:
  • Make a last stop at a petrol-station in Austria, because the petrol will there cheaper about 0,10 € per liter than in Italy.
  • The alcohol limit is by 0,5 promille
  • Since 01.01.2003 it is allowed to drive 150 km/h instead of 130 km/h on a three-lane highway.
  • On the dual carriageway the speed-limit is 110km/h. On rainy days 90 km/h.
  • On the highways and outside the villages you have to put on the anti-dazzle light, during the day also.
  • If you have to leave your car becaues of an accident or car-breakdown, you have to wear a reflected waistcoat.
  • Motorbikes till 149 ccm are forbidden on the highways.
  • Violations can be very expensive in Italy, especially in the main saison.

For using the highways you have to pay toll. When drive up on the highway you have to take a ticket and when you leave the highway you have to pay and hand in the ticket. Don´t loose the ticket before paying, because the toll-company will calculate the most expensive price.

toll for normal cars (level: 2003/2004):
18,60 € for the route Brenner - Venedig
29,50 € for the route Brenner - Ancona
53,40 € for the route Brenner - Bari
53,40 € for the route Brenner - Brindisi
24,30 € for the route Brenner - Triest
For the route to Triest via Salzburg you have to pay for the Tauern-highway in Austria.

Starting point for the travel-description is the crossing point Austria - Italy (Brenner).

You have the choice of different harbours in Italy to come to Greek. Which harbour you will take depends of the ferry-boat company and the departure times. The more southern the port is in Italy, the shorter the ferry boat time is. For that you will drive longer in Italy and the toll costs will increase.
